Carbohydrate

A compound consisting of ("carb-") carbon and ("hydr") water/hydrogen.

A loaf of bread is a prime example of a carbohydrate as bread consists of several grams of carbohydrates per serving. A person normally gets their servings of carbohydrates by eating grain based foods, fruits, or vegetables. The simplest carbohydrates are monosaccharides, which consist of only one sugar.
